Well, I thought that the new paint would be indeed the same color, as I was told this was the factory color scheme for the 1957. So, being the good researher that I am, I determined this to be Rosso Amaranto. Well, apparently the former color was not Rosso Amaranto. That said, when I went over to Cruz’s body shop for a preview of the parts, it was considerably more red. But, I really loved the color!! It is very rich looking and a great color indeed. Now, this presents a few new problems. First, there are OTHER parts that are this color. Namely the wheels, footrest running boards and ultimately the engine cowling. Spec called for the top half of the rear shock absorber (dampener) to be painted this as well, but I’ll likely just pass and let this go for now.
The wheels were no big deal. Threw her up on a set of blocks and got everything removed and wheels split and off the tires. But the engine cowling was another matter! The left side mounts and removes from the left. The right side, however, was not so easy. A piece of it goes around the intake manifold (or rather, the intake manifold runs through it!), and this meant I would have to remove the carb and really dis-assemble things. Didn’t want to go there, so for now, the engine cowling stays the old color. When and if I need to rework the carb or remove the intake manifold for any reason, I’ll take the cowling off then and re-paint. I’ll have a little paint left over, so should be okay. The difference isn’t as noticable in these photos, but it is more significant in person.
Received the wiring harness from Guillermo. Looks great. Just a few ends I’m not positive on, so a quick email to him should cure. Posted a video of the harness on uTube so Guillermo could walk me through each end to make sure I knew where they are to go. Think I get 3 of the 5, but getting the 2 wrong that i’m not sure on would not be good!
My father-in-law happens to be a highly trained electrical engineer by trade, and I’ve asked him to drop by this afternoon to do a quick gut-check with me to fill in the gaps where needed on my knowledge of this wiring schematic. Unfortunately, my LD has different wire coating colors than should be there, so i’ve got to trace the electrical schematic down piece by piece to re-work it.
Funny how a side engine cover scrape can lead to a partial re-build, huh? Well, I hope she’ll look great when I’m done. Goal is to have it re-assembled by the time my family arrives for a visit on July 2. Lofty goal, I know, as I am going to be in Colorado from June 26-July 1. Well, I work best under pressure. Now, if Cruz can just turn around those wheels by Wednesday….
